Where did all the Churches come from?

When I look around, I see so many churches around and I ask where did they all come from?  Who started them?  What do they believe in?  How do I know which one is the TRUE CHURCH OF JESUS?  It is all so confusing.  History is the best answer to this one.

There are many different denominations of churches but logic tells us that only one is founded by Jesus Christ.  The question is “Which one?”  Well, that leaves us to understand that all the rest of them are founded by men.  They all have some truths in each of them but only one has ALL of the TRUTH.  Below is a document from EWTN that may help us.

How Old Is Your Church?
If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex- monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.

If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.

If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.

If you are a Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.

If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.

If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.

If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774.

If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1829.

If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.

If you are of the Dutch Reformed church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.

If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.

If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.

If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as ‘Church of the Nazarene,” “Pentecostal Gospel.” “Holiness Church,” “Pilgrim Holiness Church,” “Jehovah’s Witnesses,” your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past century.

If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ the Son of God, and it is still the same Church.

As you can see there are many churches that have been started by many different people but only one started by Jesus Himself.  You might say to yourself…The Catholic Church is Jesus’s Church?!  But there are so many things that I have heard about the Catholic Church and I could never be Catholic.

Really? What do you know about the Catholic Church?  Do you know if those things are the truth?  Challenge what you think you know about the Catholic Church.   There are many misconceptions about the Catholic Church but the truth is absolutely beautiful and the Church can make claims that no other church can say in truth.

  • The Catholic Church has the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist (Communion) and miracles to prove it.
  • The Catholic Church has seven (7) sacraments instead of only 2-3.  This gives you more opportunity to receive Grace for salvation.
  • The Catholic Church is 2000 years old and is still thriving.
  • The Catholic Church has an unbroken line of popes directly from Jesus and St. Peter.  This is apostolic succession and the passing on of Jesus’ authority directly to the priests and bishops.
  • The Catholic Church put the Bible together and has ALL of the books that belong to the Bible. None has been removed.

Are you intrigued yet?  You might be saying, “Yes but I can go to any church, it doesn’t matter.”  Think about this…Did Jesus say that in the Bible?  Did He start 40,000 different churches?  Did He say you can do whatever you want and you can still get into Heaven?  I thought about this very issue a lot and I came up with another question…

Am I willing to take the risk on the very salvation of my soul for eternity by doing whatever I want?  By going to whatever church and it doesn’t matter?  By thinking, if I believe in God or Jesus and I’m a good person, God will let me into Heaven?  He gave instructions to the apostles that we all need to follow for salvation.  Are you going to risk your salvation for eternity on doing what you want to?  It’s all up to God, not us.

I will have more information coming up on the next blog.  If you have questions please email me on my contact page.  Thank you for reading my blog.
